In our Client Magnet Challenge we encourage the idea of creating customer personas from day 1. If you don't know who your ideal client is, you'll waste time and energy chasing after prospects who will never value your work. Clarity is your secret weapon. This isn't just theory; it's the foundation of all effective marketing.
Use the simple worksheet below to sketch out your Ideal Client Persona. Don't overthink it; but do be fairly specific, write down the things that come to mind. Give this persona a name (e.g., “E-commerce Emily,” “Local Solicitor Steve”) and keep them in mind for the rest of the challenge.
The Ideal Client Worksheet
Persona Name: _________________________
1. The Basics: What industry are they in? (Examples: Local services like plumbers or solicitors, e-commerce stores selling physical products, coaches and consultants, B2B tech companies.)
My Ideal Client is in the _________________________ industry.
2. The Scale: What's their company size? (Examples: A solo entrepreneur, a small team of 5-10, a more established business with 20+ employees.)
They are likely a _________________________ with about _________________________ employees.
3. The Pain: What is their biggest website-related headache? (This is crucial. What problem keeps them up at night? Examples: “Our website is embarrassing and looks dated,” “We get traffic but no leads,” “Our online shop is a clunky nightmare to manage.”)
Their biggest frustration with their website is _________________________. They probably say things like, “_________________________.“
4. The Budget: How do they view this investment? (Examples: “They're looking for the cheapest option,” “They appreciate quality and understand this is an investment to solve a problem,” “Money is no object if they can see a clear return.”)
When it comes to budget, they _________________________ because they value _________________________.
5. The Vibe: What are they like to work with? (Examples: Decisive and trusts experts, collaborative and wants to be involved, friendly and communicates well, organised and respects deadlines.)
As a client, they are _________________________ and _________________________.
Now, for the rest of the challenge, your only job is to find more people just like the person you've described above.
